Brownies
1st Eppleton Brownies were founded in 1988 by the present Brown Owl Glenis Wallace, who obtained her Queens Guide Award as a youth herself with Church group.
When our Brownie Pack was founded in 1988, I was brown owl and had another leader who was called Florence. Unfortunately she had to leave due to family commitments. I was then lucky to find another leader called Sharon, but she also had to leave, this time due to work.
We are very lucky to be able to meet in the Scout Headquarters. In being able to meet in the H.Q. we are able to use joint equipment, have joint fund raising activities (to pay the bills) and also run joint activities.
At the moment we have 14 girls in the pack and their interests vary quite considerably. The last activity the girls did was to make their own Easter baskets to put their Easter eggs in. They did this with plastic canvas and wool, and they had to cross stitch a pattern. This was hard work (patience was needed) which the girls found difficult.
February`s activity was a great success. We cooked pancakes.A small tin foil case is used as the pan, a wooden clothes peg is the handle and a night light or a candle is the heat. The girls thought this was great fun, and enjoyed eating their own cooking.Quite a few girls were black at the end of the night, as for some reason the tin foil gave off a lot of soot.
In June we went to the Wildfowl Park. This is an annual event which is really good fun. Rainbows, Brownies and Guides from all over the division go for the evening. We feed all the birds, there are lots of different activities to join in,and a very large sing song is also held. We are all looking forward to going there again.
